Pickup code: 取件码 (qǔ jiàn mǎ); Which shelf is it on? 请问它放在哪个货架?; Did someone take it by mistake? 是不是有人拿错了?
I stood in front of the shelves at the parcel station and searched three times, but I still could not see my package. My phone clearly said it had been delivered, so where had the package gone? I’m Xiaoyue. Today, let’s use simple Chinese to talk about what to do when a package goes missing.
Last week, I bought a yellow raincoat online. I wanted to go hiking on the weekend, and the weather forecast said it might rain, so I hoped to receive it before Friday. On Thursday afternoon, my phone received a message saying the package had arrived at the parcel station by my neighborhood gate.
The message also had a pickup code: seventeen-dash-three. I went to get the package after work. There were many people at the station that day. Large and small boxes were placed near the door, and there were rows of shelves inside. A staff member was helping other people find their packages.
I first went to shelf seventeen, then looked on the third level. But there were only two small boxes there, and my gray delivery bag was not there. I checked above and below, but still could not find it. I thought perhaps I had read it wrong, so I opened my phone again to check the pickup code.
The code was correct: seventeen-dash-three. I looked across the shelf from left to right, and then from right to left. After searching for several minutes, I had to ask the staff member, Hello, I can’t find my package. Could you help me check?
The staff member first asked for my phone number, and then checked on the computer. She said, The system shows that this package was collected at 4:10 this afternoon. I was very surprised. At 4:10, I was still at work, so I could not have come to collect it.
I asked, Did someone take it by mistake? The staff member said that was possible. The station receives many packages every day. Sometimes two delivery bags look very similar, and someone may take the wrong one without checking the name. She told me not to worry and to search carefully again.
I called the courier and said, Hello, my package says it has been delivered, but I can’t find it at the station. The courier asked what my package looked like. I told him it was a gray bag, and it should have my name and the last four digits of my phone number on it.
The courier thought for a moment and said, I remember that bag. There were too many packages today. I may have put it on shelf seven, not shelf seventeen. Go and check seven-dash-three. Just one different number meant a completely different location.
I immediately went to shelf seven. There really was a gray bag on the third level, but the name on it was not mine. I almost took the wrong package too. The staff member reminded me, Don’t take it yet. Check the name and number. I nodded and put the bag back where it was.
We kept looking. The staff member used her phone light to look behind the shelf and found a bag that had fallen deep inside. She pulled it out, and I saw my name on it! My package had not been taken by someone else. It had only been put on the wrong shelf and fallen behind it.
Before leaving, I checked the name, and then the last four digits of the phone number. Both were correct. After I opened the outer bag, I saw the yellow raincoat I had bought. I finally felt relieved, and I thanked both the staff member and the courier.
After this experience, I learned to slow down when collecting a package. First check the pickup code, then find the correct shelf. Even if a package looks similar, do not take it right away. You must check the name and phone number. This helps you avoid taking someone else’s package by mistake.
If you really cannot find your package, first ask the staff member to check the system, and then contact the courier. You can say, My package says it has been delivered, but I can’t find it. You can also ask, Which shelf is it on? These sentences are very useful.
If someone has taken your package by mistake, do not get angry with the staff. Leave your phone number, and ask them to contact the person who took it. If it still cannot be found, contact the store. Ask whether they can send another one, or request a refund.
Please remember these sentences today: I can’t find my package. Did someone take it by mistake? Which shelf is it on? Please help me check. Before taking it, please check the name and phone number. Have you ever been unable to find a package? Next time, we’ll keep talking about real life in simple Chinese!
