Morning park basics: 公园 (gōng yuán, park), 运动 (yùn dòng, exercise), 打太极 (dǎ tài jí, do tai chi), 广场舞 (guǎng chǎng wǔ, square dancing), 凉快 (liáng kuai, nice and cool).; Talking about time & frequency: 早上六点 (zǎo shang liù diǎn, six in the morning), 星期天 (xīng qī tiān, Sunday), 每天 (měi tiān, every day), 九点多了 (jiǔ diǎn duō le, past nine already), 下个星期天 (xià gè xīng qī tiān, next Sunday).; Park activities: 划船 (huá chuán, row a boat), 钓鱼 (diào yú, go fishing), 喂鱼 (wèi yú, feed the fish), 写字 (xiě zì, write characters), 拍手 (pāi shǒu, clap along).
At six in the morning, most young people are still asleep. But the grandmas and grandpas in the park are already out exercising.
I'm Xiao Yue. It's Sunday today and the weather is lovely, so I want to take you to the park next to my home. I'll speak very slowly, so you can listen and learn Chinese at the same time.
The morning breeze is cool, and the sun has just come up. I bought a cup of hot soy milk, and as I walk, I sip it slowly. The park is really close to my home — just a five-minute walk.
Here we are! It's so early, but there are already lots of bikes at the park gate. So many people inside — it's so lively!
Look over there — lots of grandmas and grandpas standing under the big trees. They're doing tai chi. Tai chi is a Chinese kind of exercise — the moves are slow and beautiful to watch.
One grandpa sees me and says with a smile: young lady, want to join us? I follow along and learn two moves. It looks easy, but it's SO hard to do, haha!
The music up ahead is so loud! A big group of aunties are dancing. This dance is called square dancing. In China, lots of aunties come to dance every morning and evening.
They dance so well, with big smiles on their faces. I want to dance too, but I don't know how, so I stand at the side and clap along to the music.
Look at this grandpa — his brush is huge! He's writing characters on the ground. This big brush uses no ink, only water — nice and clean.
His characters are really beautiful. When the sun comes out and the water dries, the characters disappear. The grandpa smiles and says: no problem, I'll come write again tomorrow!
In the middle of the park, there's a big lake. The water is green, with little boats on it. Lots of people sit by the lake fishing, all quiet and peaceful.
I want to go on a boat too! A boat is thirty yuan an hour. I climb in and row slowly. The breeze blows in off the lake — it feels amazing!
There are so many big red fish in the lake. I buy a little bag of fish food and feed them. The fish all swim over with their big mouths wide open — so cute!
It's past nine now — the sun is strong and it's getting hot. I sit down to rest under a big tree. It's nice and cool in the shade.
A few kids are playing nearby, running back and forth. I buy an ice cream — sweet and cold. On a hot day, a bite of ice cream just makes you happy!
I really love the park in the morning. Some people are singing, some dancing, some exercising — and everyone looks so happy.
In China, a park isn't just a place to look at flowers and trees — it's a place where everyone has fun together. You don't need to spend much money to enjoy a whole morning.
It's ten o'clock, and I slowly walk home. At the park gate, I look back one more time — the aunties are still dancing! Next Sunday, I'll be back.
Alright, that's our park stroll for today. Is there a park near your home? What do you like to do in the park? Tell me in the comments — and I'll see you next time!
