打电话给妈妈

It's eight o'clock in the evening now. Every Sunday evening, I do the same thing — I call my mom.

I work out here all on my own, and home is far away. Every day is busy, but no matter how busy I am, on Sunday evening I always make sure to call my mom. I'm Xiao Yue, and today I'll tell you about me and my mom.

I pick up my phone and sit down on the sofa. I like to make video calls. That way, I can not only hear my mom's voice, I can also see her face.

Just then, I hear my dad's voice. My dad comes over too, wanting to see me. He asks me: Do you have enough money? If it's not enough, just tell Dad.

I say: It's enough, Dad, don't worry. Looking at my mom and dad, my heart feels happy, and a little homesick too.

My mom takes the phone into the kitchen to show me the food she's cooking. Ah, it's my favorite — red braised pork! The moment I see it, I get hungry.

I say: Mom, I really miss your cooking. My mom smiles and says: So when are you coming home? When you come back, I'll cook for you every day.

I think for a moment and say: Next month, next month I'll come home to see you both. When my mom hears this, she's so happy and says: Great, Mom will wait for you to come home.

Just before we hang up, my mom starts telling me over and over: It's hot now, don't use the air conditioner too much; go to bed early, don't stay on your phone until late.

I say yes to her, one thing after another. My mom has said these things many times, but I don't find it annoying at all. It's so nice to have someone care about you like this.

We talk for almost an hour before we slowly say goodbye. I say: Mom, you have to take good care of yourself too, and rest early. My mom says: I know, you too.

After hanging up, the room suddenly goes quiet. I look at my phone, my heart feeling warm, and just a little homesick.

Really, when I call my mom, we don't talk about anything big. Just asking whether you've eaten, chatting about what we did today. But these few simple words — that's what home feels like.
